MATERIALS

All of our materials are sourced as sustainably and locally as possible. We work closely with our suppliers to review their processes and support improvements in sustainable practices.

GRASS AND FIBRES

Inspired by the vast Swazi landscapes, each handbag is primarily woven from Lutindzi grass. Indigenous to eSwatini, Lutindzi grows in rocky outcrops and is sustainably harvested annually, from above the roots to ensure re-growth.

Sisal fibre is also used and sometimes combined with the grass to add depth and resistence. Sisal is an invasive plant and is traditionally used to create fencing in the homesteads.

LEATHER

With no tanneries in eSwatini, we source our leather from one of the oldest family-owned tanneries in South Africa, which dates back to 1878. It is renowned for its vegetable tanning process using biodegradable ingredients derived from tree bark extracts like wattle-bark.

HARDWARE

Hardware details are thoughtfully constructed in the finest brass sourced from Italy, with custom designed, hand-carved cow horn details sourced ethically from eSwatini.

Traditionally the cow horn is kept in remembrance of important events, but as customs fade they are commonly discarded.

Our local horn supplier believes that all components of each cow should be valued as they were by his ancestors, thus taking great pride in creating beautifully polished pieces for our use.

CARE

The distinctive look of this bag is the result of hand weaving and special artisanal treatments. Natural wear may occur over time. Any variations in tone or texture are inherent to the unique materials used, emphasizing the hand-dyed and handcrafted nature of the bag.
